Paradise [ip] Multiple Task Report Requests

our needs: quickly run a task report(s) and filter in or out: project #(s) (to view tasks from multiple projects on one report), task status, task type, task group, task priorities to display exactly what we want to see and only what we want to see. To a lesser extent, it would be nice to filter in or out tasks created or due on a date or within a date range. Basically, there is no filter ability when it comes to reporting. The only you are currently allowed to filter on is task statuses. Our concerns or issues with reports as is: by description: (printer version) still exports full tasks details out and ends up being a long report w/ too much info displayed on each task, cannot filter. (export) Includes "complete" tasks that are not needed, forcing you to spend time doing "clean up". Also doesn't format the report, does not export complete comment threads from tasks, cuts off comments and not able to follow the string from the beginning on the report, and of course, cannot filter. * you should have the ability to filter in "all incomplete tasks statuses" if we could have a task report by description (or administration: task report by description) to allow you to filter on all variables and didn't cut off the comment threads then it would be fine. *Right now it only allows you to filter on statuses only, how do you get a bird's eye view of the project? Why wouldn't you want to say "all incomplete statuses"? *What if you wanted to see a report that showed you two or three specific projects, and all tasks from those projects that are not complete with comments... You cannot do this right now and seems like a very basic feature. In administration you can do this if you want to see ALL projects, but that will hardly ever be the case, and again, cannot filter on all variables. * What if you wanted to see all incomplete tasks from two different projects that were of the "marketing" task type... *What if you wanted to see all "to verify" tasks that were "urgent" priority to see if anything is just waiting to be signed off on... The task overview report allows you to filter groups, status, types, priorities, creators, assigned, reviewers... why can't the "by description" report as well!? Add a project filter to that and you're golden. The only thing beyond that is the ability to specify more than one choice for each filter. For example, if I wanted to report on "correction" and "addition" task types... or more than 1 project, or more than 1 priorities, etc.. The filtering on the custom report seems to be in the right direction, just underdeveloped... when I filter certain things it doesn't seem to show me what it should... technically is appears as though the custom report gives us exactly what we want but we'd have to redefine or recreate it every time we changed one parameter... and figure out why it's not out putting the info it's supposed to based on the filters you've just put in...

    Re: Multiple Task Report Requests

We plan to add a dashboard to AceProject eventually. A dashboard usually includes several summary reports on one page (e.g. a mini-Gantt chart, a mini-calendar, a mini-task report, etc.) This will provide users with a bird's eye view of their assigned projects and tasks. For administrators, it will provide them with a bird's eye view of all projects.

In the meantime, I guess the custom task report is the right one for you. This is the one that should be used when the other reports are not a good fit. When custom task reports don't return the expected results, it may be that too many filters have been applied. Sometimes, a filter may override another one.

Do not hesitate to contact us should you have queries about reporting in AceProject. We'll make it work!

    Re: Multiple Task Report Requests

The custom report almost works.  There are 2 main problems with this however:1. When you export out to excel (so that we can have the report on as few sheets as possible and as easy to absorb as possible) ACE is cutting off some comments that are in the comment thread.  In other words, I might have 6 months and 200 lines of comments but not all are being carried over into the custom report in an excel document.  They are seen on the screen once you generate the custom report but when you export out, they aren’t there.

     2. Since we have so many projects that need to be separated, but still similar and often grouped together, we would have to constantly redefine and clean up our custom report(s) to get the output we are looking for.

It would be ideal, and I would think fairly simple to offer more filters for task reports by description (similar to Administration -> task reports -> overview).  Then, just add the other variables to include all of them to widen the scope.

I suppose we could spend the time and define a custom report for every one of our projects but it just seems an application this powerful should have the ability to define and filter a report on all variables on the fly...
