“Lag Time” represents the number of days that must elapse after a predecessor task is completed before its successor may be started. For instance, if  task 1 (the predecessor) is to apply the 1st coat of paint on a wall and task 2 (the successor) is to apply the 2nd coat of paint, a lag time on the dependency between these 2 tasks may be set to account for the time required for the 1st coat to dry.
